Oooh, I saw a bunch of these when I was up in Boston a few weeks ago! The guy I was walking with called them corpse-flowers, but I was thinking "I know urbpan has posted about these, what did he call them?"

Indian pipe! Thank you! We saw tons of these in Allandale Woods and the Blue Hills, and had no idea what they were.

I photographed a group of these at the wooded edge of my backyard in suburban Boston hoping I could identify them online. With no botannical background, I had a hard time identifying them. I found a website that welcomed questions "Growsonyou.com" posted my photo and got a response from California. The link provided sent me to a Google images page where I found your blog. I had never seen this plant before in my 50+ years as a New Englander. Have you seen them frequently? Where? I'm sure your right about this weather being a factor in the abundance of the plant this year. janelson@charter.net
