Lost Pond Macros

Still learning the new lens. These are from last Sunday. I had a breakthrough today which would have made shooting these tiny mushrooms much more effective (hint: manual focus macro). These guys were only 4 or 5 cm tall.











Here's Alexis caught in the act of getting a much better picture of the same caterpillar.

The pine needle shows how small the mushrooms are. I heard of a nature guy who had to photograph a lot of stuff in the field and he had a ruler tattooed on his hand so he could always show the scale accurately. Do those caterpillars sting?

Maggie sniffed the caterpillar and it was clearly an unpleasant experience--but not so unpleasant that she didn't do it again.
