The previous two days were cold. Before this when people would say "it's cold" I would reply, "not yet, but it's getting there!" But this was definitely cold. I know I complain a lot, but it annoys me when people complain about it being cold before the cold actually gets here. It went down near the single digits (Fahrenheit) overnight, and was like 12 degrees when we walked the dogs in the morning yesterday. It's 17 degrees now. I did a lot of outdoor work yesterday morning, and it was plenty uncomfortable.

I don't know if my Muddy River picture from yesterday conveyed "cold" but that's what it was about. The exhaust from the MATEP tower was pouring out as a huge cloud. Likewise, when I went past the BostonEdison plant:

Today we're going to go look at a new (used) car for me. I'm not really looking forward to it, but it's gotta happen. Then we go to [livejournal.com profile] g_weir's house for some Rock Band, then the snow comes. They keep updating the snow prediction to be more apocalyptic. States southeast of us are supposed to get whomped, and the Boston area isn't supposed to get out with less than 3 inches, probably much more.
Just in time for the first day of winter (sometime this week).

Needless to say, we've been looking at San Diego real estate on Trulia.

I kind of get internally irritated when I See people walking around seriously bundled up when it isn't REALLY cold yet because I think.. Man what are you going to do when it gets really cold.

The weather today made a big deal of the 8-10 inches of snow Boston was going to receive and then glossed over the 1-2 ft of snow Philadelphia was supposed to receive.

San Diego sounds good.

I did a lot of outdoor work yesterday morning at 18°C below zero and I was so hot I took off my coat. But I was wearing thermal underwear, a sweatshirt and a tuque/scarf/gloves and I was engaged in strenuous manure shoveling.

I have a new hyperbolic phrase to try out: "______ as a Canadian zookeeper." Not sure exactly what goes in the blank yet.

Yeah, it didn't get actually cold until Friday. And now we have seasonable weather! At last! It seems to be still snowing, but since it has been blowing about so much I couldn't begin to make an estimate of how much we've gotten thus far.

It kind of gets to me too, especially since it's rarely really cold (mid 30s and below) here. 47 is not a cold night! But it's overwhelmingly guys with heavy Spanish accents who say it. And either walk around in the fat jackets or are still in shirtsleeves. I reckon they're the newcomers who still haven't grokked that it's cooler here in winter than it is in Mexico. I can feel some pity, too - it's hard to adjust when you first move to a place with a different climate. The ones who've been here, or in New England, more than a year, though ....
