June Urban Nature Walk at Savin Hill Beach

Our June Urban Nature Walk was at Savin Hill Beach in Dorchester. This sun-bleached European green crab shell on dry seagrass is a good symbol of how hot and dry it's been.

This feisty little guy is an Asian shore crab Hemigrapsus sanguineus, unseen in North America until 1988 when it was found in New Jersey. It's become one of the most commonly encountered crabs on the east coast.
