A couple of older ladies stopped me in the park (i was taking the puppy to the softball game) to talk to me about their business selling instant coffee as part of some kind of pyramid scheme, and also Jesus. It was a very disorganized approach, but the ladies were lovely and polite so I talked with them for a while. They were impressed when I recognized Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi mushroom) on the label of the coffee mix. I was happy to take some samples from them and give them my email address in case they wanted to +/- get me involved in their coffee scheme/save my immortal soul.


The coffee mix is almost unbearably sweet, but would make a nice starter for ice coffee, or even homemade coffee ice cream. Ganoderma lucidum mushroom is the last ingredient listed on the package, right after “coffee.”

In the spring of 2001, my marriage had fallen apart, I moved in with my friend Alexis, and my Dad called me one day: "How would you like to come with me to Rio De Janeiro." I was almost angry at him: "What kind of a question is that?! OF COURSE I want to go with you to Rio De Janeiro!"
