I've made friends with three primates named Kiki in my time at the zoo. One has left me, moved back to Texas. Another remains my best human friend at work. The last--this Kiki--shares only glimmers of recognition with me, sometimes curiosity about my activities, sometimes what appears to be real interest. That's pretty good for a non-human friend.

This was the first mycorrhizal mushroom I encountered this year! Cute little willy of an Amanita there, probably A. flavoconia. Mycorrhizal mushrooms are produced by fungi that have a symbiotic relationship with a plant. (Probably the relationship is a complex interaction of many plants and many fungi species, but each mycorrhizal mushroom is predictably associated with one or more plant species--in this case, oak.)

The mushroom on the left is the same species, just a day or so more developed, and kicked over by some child no doubt.

And then back at home, the chickens enjoy some out-of-coop experiences.
