Lj problems
Nov. 28th, 2005 09:04 amSo after a week, and 839 (last count) commented complaints to
lj_maintenance, with no reply, there is still a problem with getting comments sent to email boxes (as well as a bunch of other problems that haven't affected me yet). Of course, if the Powers That Be are not receiving comments to their email, they may not know about the problem (just kidding, I'm sure they know). What's baffling is the week-long lack of acknowledgement of the problem, never mind a solution.
I don't usually post about technical issues, but since my journal is most interesting as conversation between many people, this problem is affecting it directly. When people aren't aware that their comment has been replied to, the conversation stops.
If I had a free account, I wouldn't complain so much. I'd just switch back over to blogspot. But since I have a paid account, it's the equivalent of only getting half of my incoming phone calls. You can bet that I'd expect compensation from the phone company. I know that they did some major work (moving hardware, I believe) last week, but while that may be a reason for the problem, it's not an excuse. The most frustrating thing is the lack of any acknowledgement or any hint that they are working on the problem. This from a company that lets us know every time they change the design on their goat mascot.

Date: 2005-11-28 02:53 pm (UTC)Until we can get ahold of the right people at AOL (which is proving difficult on a Sunday), you'll have to live without comment notification emails.
UPDATE: A friendly AOL ops engineer contacted us and unblocked us. It'll work again as of tomorrow morning sometime we're told. As for Yahoo, Gmail, etc... we'll be looking into those. For now check your spam/quarantine folders and add us to your whitelists if we show up there.
Do you have a spam folder in your mail account you could check? I know that's still a pain, but better than nothing.

Date: 2005-11-28 03:09 pm (UTC)I use Hotmail and Alexis uses a system through her workplace. Her spam filter is pretty good, and hotmail's is practically nonexistant. I'm getting about half my comments in my email, she's getting maybe a third (a bigger problem, since she is more active in more communities than me).
Hotmail's spam folder is "junk mail" where I get notifications from yahoo groups, amazon.com and such. My lj comments go to my inbox. The missing comments aren't going to "junk mail," they're just disappearing.

Date: 2005-11-28 03:26 pm (UTC)...which is exactly what's irritating so many of us the most. the point is that that's not the major problem at all.
