I don't know about you, but my second puberty has been marked by aberrant hairs. The most annoying of these is the long white eyelash. Eyelashes, like all hairs, are programmed to grow to a certain length, then drop out. One eyelash, a crazy white bastard, has ignored this programming, and grows several millimeters longer and sometimes bends down into my field of vision.

When it's simply long I can just trim it, by careful use of a nosehair trimmer. As it is now I just rub my eye with the heel of my hand, hoping that the hair will give up and fall out. I have a great horror of touching my eyelid.

A 3:00 look at Contentment Cottage, before I go for my daily 2 mile walk (a new years resolution I think).

So as I was on my 2 mile walk, I passed this dam on Mother Brook. Mother Brook, as I may have blogged before, was the first man-made canal in New England. It was cut between the Charles and Neponset Rivers, for the purpose of making waterfalls like this one to turn waterwheels.

The wheels and mills are gone, but the dams remain.

These little guys are coming out of the same stump I posted about recently--I have no chance of making an identification, I'm just so delighted that mushrooms are fruiting in the dead of winter.
