In a way, I'm glad that this slush storm has come, to remind me why it is we MUST leave New England, as much as I love it (well, everything but the weather, and housing costs). I know "there's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing" but I don't own an arctic drysuit. I'm not going to start shopping for clothes at the same places as Coast Guard rescue workers and Bering Strait fishermen, but that's the only appropriate clothes for right now.

I got 90% of my cold weather stuff from there...

Add a loofah to that mix? AWESOME!

Of course, J disagrees with me vehemently. He thinks that combo amounts to torture. ;)

Also: They have GREAT brands at Sierra, at great prices, not just cheap versions of stuff that don't last. And they're great about shipping and returns, too. Every year I do another round of ordering. Highly recommended.

Where're you thinking of going? I have exactly no reason to visit Boston (there's only one person there I've met in real life -- my husband's obnoxious ex!) but I'd made a mental note to find out about your Nature Walks if I ever found an occasion to visit.

Both of us ([livejournal.com profile] cottonmanifesto and I) would love to move to the San Francisco Bay area, but it's probably too expensive for our plans (sell our condo, buy a cute little house, with a yard for the dogs) so we're trying to find a reasonable substitute.

The Pacific Northwest isn't sunny enough for the wife, and the bible belt scares us New Englanders to death. We visited Austin and liked it, but the heat may kill me, unless I'm not a zookeeper anymore by the time we move. I think we should check out "the triangle" (Raleigh NC area) but she's pretty much already rejected it. Desert cities are starting to look good (we're looking at cities, since she needs to work somewhere where her skills as an administative asst for research labs) but I'm afraid the lack of trees would make me sad.

Any suggestions?

I would love to retire to San Diego one day. One of my uncles married a woman out there in the 70s, and about a dozen family members from Long Island visited him there and then just had to move there. In my dreams, I earn enough to retire to San Clemente (on the freeway up to LA), which is gorgeous, but the whole San Diego area is full of natural scenery as well as civilization.

I think they might have a zoo or a wildlife park or something over there, too, huh?

Yeah, Southern California is definitely on our radar.

I do seem to recall that there's a little zoo or two in the San Diego area.
