urbpan: (Me and Charlie in the Arnold Arboretum)

I didn't take too many pictures on last week's Urban Nature Walk at the Arnold Arboretum. Maybe that's because I was too busy yakkin'. Here are two.

This giant European Beech demands climbing and (for some people apparently) incising with graffiti.

My dad and Justin talking in the pines. Something about this walk made people spread out--there were only eight of us, but we were all over the place. I actually had to call one section of the group on my cell phone to get us back together. Beautiful place, though!

See Alexis' pictures here.

I know what you mean about not being able to take photos. Really, how much can one person handle on a hike, between yakking, watching, and reflecting (and thinking about the time, if you have a limit).

Exactly. I'm so busy trying to make sure everyone's having a good time that I forget to document it. Good thing Alexis is taking pictures all the time!

More photos of the same Arbo beech

Here are some more photos of the same beech as above from last Fall...

Note that the carving only goes so high

The entire tree. The smaller beech around the edge are rooted from horizontal branches that contacted the gound, the connecting trunks rotted away once new roots established from the branch.
