Noticing the year: 01/13/08

I noticed that despite a week of above-freezing temperatures, Ward's Pond is still covered with ice.





Charlie considers, handsomely, whether or not to go in the icy water.


Are you kidding? There's a big stick! He has to go in the icy water.


One of my favorite views of the pond, taken from the boardwalk, looking at the path into the park, Nickerson hill, and the ever-present apartment building.


If not my favorite, then at least my most-photographed mushroom: wood ear. Note ever-present apartment building in background.


By contrast, nearby Leverett Pond is completely without ice.
