Alexis and the dogs and I went to Cochituate State Park in Natick, although I think we wandered onto the grounds of the Wayland Town Beach. Charlie got in his first good swim of the year.

Lake Cochituate is relatively late-formed and large glacial kettle. Charlie is at far left in this panorama.

Combined efforts of ants and woodpeckers--and probably the hemlock woolly adelgid and some wood decay fungi--felled this tree. Carpenter ants were still active in one of woodpecker holes.

We went to Dairy Queen on the way home.

Ah lake Cochitchuate! I learned to swim there. I learned to sail there. When it was still deemed safe for little kids to bike wherever they wanted, I'd get on my bike and spend the day at the Wayland town beach. Unless you crossed over, or under Rt. 30 you stayed on the State Park portion of the lake.
