FIrst day of vacation: Bountiful Lake
Jul. 27th, 2008 09:16 am
Yesterday we found a pretty area to walk around that turned out to be a water-filled clay pit between the town landfill and sewerage areas. This dragonfly hunts at Bountiful Lake, a man-made body of water in Bountiful Utah, just a few miles north of Salt Lake City. Town engineers four years ago decided to solve a runoff problem by diverting two creeks into a clay pit.

There were many familiar living things there, looking especially lovely in the landscape. I suspect this curly dock's bright color comes from the salty soil.

This killdeer was making a lot of noise in a grassy field. A dog spooked it over to the parking area.

I thought Alexis would appreciate this dilapidated farm.

Teasel.

A small flock of domestic geese have adopted the lake.

Date: 2008-07-27 03:55 pm (UTC)This has to be one of the few environmentally-friendly projects in Northern Utah, such a great idea. So much controversy and anger over one particularly big project, the Legacy Highway project, which cuts through and disturbs the Great Salt Lake's wetlands. Something I was personally opposed to, as was many others, but like most of our local environmental concerns, they were ignored by our redneck and money-hungry government. Sigh.
