Bull snake? Or another constrictor with similar markings?

It's a deceiving photograph! This little guy is about a foot long.

Thanks once again. I told myself "that's no garter snake! the coloration's all wrong" and then wiki-ed it to be delighted by the amazing variation across type and geographic location.

Garter snakes of MY acquaintance have been dark grey with yellow lateral stripes, no figuring as in your little fellow.

Even so, the markings are distinctive. I used to have a three-foot bull snake when I was finishing up high school, so that's why I was asking.
