This was never going to be an easy day, but if I don't find my car keys somewhere in the 4 acre dog park where I dropped them, it's going to be a royal pain in the ass.  There's somehow getting to work, being horribly busy at work, then somehow getting home, then the expected lines at the voting places, then there's the fact that I bought beer and whiskey yesterday and it's locked in my trunk.  As soon as there is enough light out (sunrise is at 6:22--I have to be at work at 7) I'm going over there to look.  Last night Alexis and I looked in the dark.  I've never needed a drink (or an Atavan) as badly in my life. 

OBLIGATORY ELECTION DAY NAGGING:
If you can vote in the US election today, do it.  I'm sure I'm the first to tell you this.  Californians especially need to vote down question 8 (or prop 8 or the "we hate fags" amendment or whatever they're calling it) for the sake of the state's reputation as well as for the cause of civil rights, and to keep from encouraging other states to write discrimination into their constitutions.

I didn't think anything could push the anxiety of the election today and Maggie's operation tomorrow into the background, but losing my keys did the trick nicely.  I've been anticipating this day with bitten nails for weeks, now I just want more time and light.

If you have the paperwork for your car, the "key number" is on it somewhere. If you give them the key number, the dealer can make you a new key. In fact, if you call the dealer they may know where on the paperwork the key number is. The down side of this is that they will charge you about $100 to make the key.

As an alternative, you could just take taxis today and buy a small bottle of liquor for tonight. Consider it your election day gift to yourself.

We discovered one of our car's tires is so worn it has exposed metal threads on the inside edge. Husband put on the spare last night but can't inflate it properly with the kit in my trunk. Today the plan is to drive it VERY SLOWLY over to the nearest service station and see if they can't inflate it, then drive to the nearest town to replace it with a new tire. THEN go vote.

I'm sorry about your keys, that really does suck. Especially with the liquor in the trunk!

Next time this happens, be aware that you can pump a car tire up with a bicycle pump. It's not hard to do and it doesn't take very long.

I hadn't realized California's prop 8 was getting so much international coverage. If it passes I'll be so disappointed with my state. I want to say there's no way it'll happen, but marriage was stopped here before.

I'm definitely voting today.
