Here I am modeling my new suit, purchased because I got too fat for my old one over the winter, and I needed one in a hurry to go to a fancy zoo event.

The pants were way too long, so my friend Nan came over to hem them for me. This is how we learned that irons are bad for the finish on a wood table top. The pants looked good though!

Earlier that day I rode 10 miles in the Jonathan Gilmour Memorial Fund ride by myself, and the only picture I took was this one of an apple orchard, as I whizzed by.

Made my last payment on this sexy new bike. I bought it from a friendly coworker who let me have it pretty cheap. It's light and fast as hell. Maybe I should try for the 50 mile Gilmour Ride in 2015?

Here we are, your 2014 Zoo Crew! This is the largest group we've assembled for a 25 mile ride yet. Ours was also the team that raised the most money for the scholarship (thanks in no small measure to you wonderful people).

Gratitude

I am full of gratitude for all the people who donated to my latest charity thing. I worry that it probably seems like that's all I do on here (and my other social media, let's be honest) since it's become a bigger and bigger part of my life. This latest effort, for my 25 mile bike ride to support the Gilmour Fund has been maybe the most successful fundraiser I've been this close to.

My team raised over 2000 dollars, over 600 of which was donated by my friends and family wishing me well. All you get in return is whatever good feelings it brings, the tax deduction, and maybe some pictures of me wearing purple and blue butterfly wings. The ride is tomorrow, and right after I finish it I've got to hurry back home, change and shower and head out to the Bowling for Rhinos event for the zoo in Providence (Roger Williams park).

That's right, two fundraisers, three New England states, biking bowling zookeeping conservation...and in three weeks we're holding our own Bowling for Rhinos. Then it'll calm down and I won't sound so much like someone holding a clipboard outside the grocery store.

I am riding yet again this year to help raise money for the Jonathan Gilmour fund!

After last year's embarrassing ten mile ride I'm going to challenge myself for the 25 miles. I can ride 10 miles easily, 20 miles convincingly, and 25 miles will make me exhausted and saddle sore, so that's worth it right?

I have a special offer for LJ readers only: I am hoping to get 10 donations of 10 dollars each. In exchange for each 10 dollar donation I will make a blog post about your choice of subject matter! I'll promise to write at least 200 words on whatever you like, and if you make it 25 dollars I'll add an illustrative photo of my own creation (I'll take a pic of something).

I am your word and picture monkey, MAKE ME DANCE!

My donation page is conveniently here: https://www.zoonewengland.org/jefc
You can tell it's me on account of that excellent URL.
Seriously I wish I could keep it.

If you don't want to use a credit card you can send a check to
Zoo New England 1 Franklin Park Road Boston MA 02121
Be sure to address the envelope to me (Jef Taylor) and put "Gilmour Ride" in the memo.
Send it soon because the ride is Saturday May 11th.

Thanks!
