Upcoming Nature Walks: in two hours, in one week
Hey I've been remiss in my self-promotion. I am leading a mushroom walk today, at 1:pm, meeting at Inn Magnolia in Gloucester. If you happen to be in that area, come by--it's free! Also the innkeeper will have some kind of exotic sno-cones available. (really)
A week from today I will be continuing my Urban Nature Walk series! These are ALWAYS free, always on Sundays at 10:am, and almost always somewhere in Eastern Massachusetts. We will be meeting at Malibu Beach! Yes there is a Malibu Beach in Eastern Massachusetts, in Boston in the neighborhood of Dorchester. All are welcome. If you want to be ahead of the curve on these walks, join the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/68443835849/
Okay, gotta pack and run. Happy Autumnal equinox everyone!

Mini-vacation to Gloucester part two - nature and beyond Gloucester

We went for a walk in the morning to look at the neighborhood of Magnolia--we hadn't really seen it in the daylight.

Here we are at Inn Magnolia! We got this opportunity because I'll be leading a mushroom walk the Inn is sponsoring, next week.

I hadn't been in the paper for a couple months, so...
HEY LOOK.

Dogtown
We went back to Dogtown again on Sunday. Here are my pictures. Kind of a weird assortment, really.

The day before was rainy, and several paths had changed into streams.
( Your usual assortment of licheny inscribed rocks and orange fungus maggots. )

Dogtown, Gloucester Massachusetts
My father left us with his car for two weeks, Alexis and I both had the day off, and it was insanely sunny, hot, and beautiful, so we took the dogs hiking in Dogtown (Click the link to get the full story of the name and the weird carved rocks. It's bona fide New England ghost town. Of course the forest swallows everything up in New England, if it isn't cut back, so it's hard to find the evidence of the village.)
Note to my brother,
brush_rat (and anyone who wants to find the place and it's rocks), we used these directions to find the place, and at that entrance there are actual trail maps. Next time you come, we won't get lost.

( lots more pictures )
