So after discovering that Bountiful Lake had nothing to do with Great Salt Lake, we really wanted to see Great Salt Lake. You'd figure, it being the biggest body of water west of the Great Lakes, that it would be easy. Our next try at it found us at Willard Bay State Park.

Before we planned this trip, we considered trying to see the Spiral Jetty, an enormous piece of environmental art on the northern shore of The Great Salt Lake. Directions I found online made it seem very difficult to get to. It was. But we're glad we did it. 16 miles of unpaved road later--including the last two miles which seemed downright dangerous--and we found it. It's amazing to me that this thing is so remote and without any kind of interpretive signage or anything. Best of all, we finally got to see the Salt Lake.

Taken out the window of the tour bus in Yellowstone. Don't worry, I have a bunch of real pictures from the park, and starting tomorrow we're going to explore on our own. Today we took a "wildlife safari" tour which was pretty good: we got to see examples of most of the megafauna, and now we kind of know what to look for. Mostly you look for other cars stopped on the side of the road, and throngs of people with cameras and binoculars. If I was keeping a bird list I'd get to add prairie falcon and yellow-headed blackbird to it today. We saw ospreys and peregrine falcons both on their nests, and a golden eagle nest with no eagle visible. The elk, bison, and deer don't really care if people are around or not, and the bears are pretty blase as well. I'll show you later.
