Self portrait on deer enclosure pond.

I figured if I'm not really even breaking through the snow, I'm probably not going to break through the ice.

He always has to come over and check me out. I think if he had antlers, he would have put me in the hospital by now.

We added a new feature to the great horned owl cage:

...great horned owls! Good choice.

Have you ever tried to touch him?

He lets me pet him on the head.

Are the females still hesitant to come close? How do they react when they see you with him?

The females don't come close. One of them sometimes lets me get close but the other bolts. They watch when I'm with the buck, but I don't think they act any different when I'm with him--I think how close I am to them is what's important, and not anything to do with my interactions with him.

Love the owls! Love the deer! Hope you don't fall through the ice! Nice boots, btw.

Love these photos. (especially the first one.) Love, love, love, love, <em<love</em> them. The light quality is aMAYzing.

I can say that because I didn't have to endure the horrible cold that must have accompanied them.

Thanks Barb!
On this day it wasn't so bad, when the wind wasn't kicking up. It must have been about 25 when I took these pictures--practically springlike. How are things down in the triangle? Roses in bloom yet?

Nope. There was a camera malfunction. I took a snapshot at 3 (two of my coworkers looking at me as I worked in a cage) but it didn't come out--all white. Either I had the settings wrong (on manual maybe?) or it was tired of being in the cold.

Nothing blooming yet, but the temps have been in the 40's and 50' during the day so I can't complain. Yesterday a co-worker said "It's cold out!" and I thought the temperature must have dropped drastically and replied "It is?". He said "it's thrity eight degrees!" in a tone normally reserved for "the ship has hit an iceberg!"

Next week it's supposed to get up to the sixties.

(Sorry about the bad html in the last comment. )
