My dad and I went to the Springfield (Massachusetts) Science Museum a couple days ago. They have a temporary exhibit about dogs up now.

This is my favorite picture from today's Urban Nature Walk in Forest Park, a huge city park in the third largest city in Massachusetts, Springfield. I grew up two towns away from here, but had never explored it quite like this. Here's my favorite picture from the walk, from about halfway through. But let's see how we got there!

A great walk! If you'd like to get in on the action go here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/68443835849/

The Advocate just published their list of the 15 Gayest U.S. Cities. What's most surprising are the omissions. NO San Francisco, NO Provincetown, NO Key West. The criteria used to determine gayness were: Same-sex couples per capita (anti-single bias!), Statewide Marriage Equality (So long, California cities!), Gay Elected Officials, Gay Bars per capita (there goes Salt Lake City's chances), and then some weird web-based ones including cruising spots and Netflix favorites.

Why do I care? Because gay-friendly cities are more liberal and more well-educated and more cultured, and those are the kinds of places I want to live. Sorry if it's a stereotype, but gay people being out of the closet strongly correlates with art museums, colleges, and Democrats.

So the Advocate's site spreads the results over 6 pages, probably to boost ad revenue. I've listed them behind the cut for your convenience:

Forest Park is a huge city park, with tennis courts, a zoo, duck ponds, and a large tract of woods which appears to have overgrown a more manicured park in recent decades. I usually go there every time I visit my parents, especially if I'm with Charlie.

You may have noticed I posted twice yesterday. That's because I'm going to see my parents out in the Pioneer Valley today, and I won't be bringing the computer. I will be bringing the camera, and I'll head up to Springfield (the country's biggest Springfield, mind you, at about 150,000 people) to see if I can find some species to finish up the year, like maybe a rat. If you live near Springfield and know where there are rats, maybe you could make some noise and scare them into the street so I could photograph some. See you Monday!

This series of photos is from Forest Park in Springfield, Mass. Springfield is the largest city on the Connecticut River, the third largest city in Massachusetts, and the largest city of the many named Springfield. Forest Park is a huge city park that includes athletic fields, picnic areas, duck ponds, and an expansive wooded area that feels like you could get lost in it (but you probably can't). Much of the wooded area is clearly a part that used to be used more but was allowed to get overgrown.
