3:00 snapshot #1936: Sunday

This is me at the Charleston rest area on the Mass Pike. I'm kind of hungry, but a busload of UNH track athletes arrived just before me, and are creating huge line-ups at all the restaurants.

I spent the morning with my Dad. Here he is talking on the phone with my brother as we stop for a drink at Jonathan Pesco's.

We stopped along the Connecticut River to look for bald eagles--didn't find any, but saw lots of giant ice floes.

I used my workout app to track my pest control duty at Stone Zoo the other day. I was treating the catch basins--the parts of the storm drains that hold water--with mosquito larvacide. I believe I posted about this a few years and someone, probably

It's high time that I immortalized the look I have on my face when I'm staring at my phone--everyone else gets to see it all the time.

3:00 snapshot #1509: Sigmund
Jan. 11th, 2014 01:56 pm
This snapshot-from-my-phone idea was going so great until I left my phone in my pants pocket and then put the pants through the wash. My Beloved Wife went and got herself a Windows Phone the dimensions of a 1975 Texas instruments calculator and gave me her phone. (I'm fantasizing about the waterproof Sony phone with the really high megapixel camera. That thing costs a lot of bucks but I'll tuck it away on my list of material possessions that will fix all my shortcomings and make my life better if I could only afford them.)
So here's a nice snapshot of Sigmund the yellow-billed stork taken with my regular camera on Thursday. Sigmund is the largest free-flight bird in the tropical forest exhibit, flying wherever he likes but spending much of his time with the saddle-billed storks, similar but much bigger birds who seem to tolerate him.
I forgot my camera on Friday and took a snapshot with my interim phone which was Alexis' last pre-smartphone phone. I couldn't figure out how to send the picture anywhere, and it sucked anyway, so let's just let that one disappear between the cracks of technology.
3:00 snapshot #1354: Albee pupdate

I thought I'd take the occasion of this unflattering snapshot of Alexis and Albee to update you on him: He's still cute.

Alexis and I set off for New York City, the first time the two of us traveled there together. I was quite skeptical about traveling by car--traffic, parking, etc. We were on our way to

Whoops! I put Monday before Sunday on accident. Here I was at the strip mall swapping out my old sim card for a new one because we got new phones. Thus was ushered in the era of being able to receive phone calls in my kitchen.

Also, earlier that day we had an Urban Nature Walk in the Stony Brook Reservation. For whatever reason, probably excess blabbing on my part, this was the only picture I took.

Alexis on a business call. For some reason we can't get good cell phone reception in our house, so to make or receive important calls we go out in the yard--sometimes I'll hop in the car and drive to CVS and make an errand of it.
( also my dad and I went to Purgatory Cove! )

At 3:00 today I happened to be at the MSPCA Angell Animal Adoption Center. I also didn't have my camera with me. I noticed a picture of a dog named "Gilligan," and took a picture of the picture with my phone, to send to Alexis. You see, we've been talking about naming one of our foster dogs Gilligan, but so far it hasn't suited any of them.
It suits this dog. Skipper!
Go here to adopt Gilligan.
