No one who is so blessed as I am, with a "bucket of lucky mobility" is permitted to complain about one's travels. That said, I already miss my wife, and going away on amazing adventures with my father is always tempered with longing to be with her.
Yesterday Alexis, Dad, and I went to The Tahiti restaurant (as buzz-marketed on the Judge John Hodgman show) for xmas day Chinese food. I received the best fortune cookie fortune that has ever been written.

My brother said (on Facebook) of this motel room: "The last room we're staying in on our trip may be small, but at least it smells funny and has an ugly view."
But boy did we have a good time!
( FOOD, AND DRINK )
I feel like I'm getting behind on real blogging, partly because it's spring and everything is happening at once, and partly because I'm on twitter and facebook for more of my messing-about-on-the-internet part of the day. A quick update:
1. MOVING--we aren't, not for at least one year. It's relaxing to have verified this, so I don't have to think about it.
2. URBAN NATURE WALK--I'm hosting one this Saturday, meeting at 9:30 a.m., at the zebra entrance of the Franklin Park Zoo. Don't know when I'll have the time to do another one. Don't really know when I'll have the time to properly research THIS one, but it will help to get the books out of the back of my car and up into the house where I can read them.
3. WORK STUFF--lots of it going on, I'm digging it mostly.
4. TRAVEL--I appear to be leaving the US at least 3 times before the fall this year. Whoa.
5. MUSHROOM STUFF--went to a lecture on monday and learned enough for a huge interesting lj post that I don't have time to post right now.
6. ROCK BAND--I'm getting really good at pretending to play drums. What'll that get me?

Coming home
Aug. 11th, 2008 10:55 pmWell, this last day of travel in and around Portland has turned out to be the most tense. ( Read more... )
Well, I got my computer back, minus the extra RAM we bought for it a while back. It runs, but it runs slow. The applestore people said that the chip failed the test, whatever that means. Alexis was livid, but it appears to be inexpensive to replace.

I have two more days of vacation pictures to post, and if I don't do it soon I'm going to forget what they all are. The next set is great, but I'm worried they're getting a bit repetitive. Oh, well, the point is to have an online scrapbook to enjoy and share. If someone gets bored they can skip to the next one.
I posted a snapshot from my phone yesterday, but it never showed up on livejournal. The voice posts are more fun anyway--maybe I should switch to a daily short audio message instead of a snapshot. That would create a nice reflection of my time in college, when I started as a visual artist, switched to "talking performance art" then dropped out and went back 12 years later to make up missing credits with science classes. Well that last part is sort of where this journal comes in, so the whole thing is elliptical.
I'm not making much sense; I think I'm really really tired. This would have been funnier as a mistranscribed phone post.
